Fungal Disease Killing Kakapo

Image result for kakapo
A deadly fungal disease is the reason why seven Kakapo have died in the last few months.

One of the Kakapo that has died was 100 years old. He was one of the sickest ones who had been treated in the New Zealand Center Conservation Medicine at Auckland Zoo.

There are now 35 Kakapo in three hospitals around the country. 160 birds remain alive in New Zealand.

The sick birds have been provided with their favourite native plants to eat and have been medicated twice a day.

It is important to keep our native animals safe and healthy.
